Figured Narra, Figured Maple

The top of this Desk is made up of three narra panels joined with maple butterfly keys. One of the keys is interchangeable with a split version that allows discreet wiring from below for any computer components. It is a beautiful surface to work at, but this Desk is really all about the base. Most of the surfaces have been shaped to give them a soft, pillow effect. The legs were carved from blanks about 6” thick. As they rise from the bottom plates, they curve and twist. They support a system of rails and cross-rails that the top panels are mounted to. I used a technique that involves dipping parts in hot sand to create three dimensional shadow effects in the maple intarsia “foliage” set into the leg bottoms.
